Microsoft Makes Office Available for Android Smartphones
According to news reports
, Microsoft has shifted from a device-based focus to cloud-based services. Early last year the company made Office available on iOS devices followed shortly after by Android tablets. Now, Office is being made available for Android smartphones.
The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, stated, “I believe that we can do magical things when we come together with a shared mission, clear strategy, and a culture that brings out the best in us individually and collectively.”
How Will Windows 10 Affect Office on Devices?
According to Microsoft, Android and iOS apps can be easily ported to Windows 10. Microsoft has clearly set its mission to making Windows the standard. With its availability on all devices, Microsoft will continue to influence users’ mobile and Internet experience. Reports show that Microsoft is not only launching the Office app on Android, but is also partnering with major companies like Samsung, Dell, and LG. Their goal includes offering pre-installed Office apps in Skype and on their devices.
By offering users quick access to Office apps, Microsoft hopes to increase its Office 365 subscription. This yearly subscriptions accounts for five percent of Microsoft’s annual profits. The company hopes to increase this number to 20 percent over the next few years. According to Ebun Onagoruwa, Microsoft product manager, “The goal of these apps is to make sure that as people think about working, creating and doing, they think of Office as the default.”
